CIS100 - Introduction to computers and Their applications

This course will introduce the student to the uses of computers in business. Students will learn the vocabulary of the computer field and how computers work. The course will teach students to use application software packages on microcomputers. In the computer lab, students will learn how to use several popular application software programs, as well as to navigate the Internet. Assignments: Reflection: For this assignment we were asked to critically reflect on our technological skills. This assignment helped us to let our professor know our interest about different application software programs and what we need to improve on. When I enrolled in this course I was a novice at computer. In this class by learning Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Front Page, I have improved my computer skills in various ways. This assignment was an opportunity for me to let my professor know my interests and weaknesses that is what I like about it. Reflection: For this assignment we had to research on the newest technology on earth and write an essay about it. I had trouble finding and deciding what technological innovation I would choose. After several attempts to find a good technological innovation I found Smartcheck - The Body Scanning machine. We are going to see the use of this machine in JFK and L.A. airport pretty soon since it searches for guns, bombs, and liquid explosives. In this device a special privacy software initially blurs the image which is clear enough to see the collerbone or the belly button. By doing this research I bacame familier with not onle a new technology but the advantage, disadvantage, and the contriversy behind it. Reflection: For this assignment we had to go to a computer fair and find a software in which we have interest on and write an essay about it. I chosed Dreamweaver and did some research on that to find out more about it. Reflection: For this assignment we had to chose a new technological innovation and do an individual PowerPoint presentation about it. I chose SmartCheck The body scanning machine. In this Power Point presentation, we were required to present the advantages, disadvantages, and and marketing strategies about this new technology. Reflection: For this assignment, the students were divided into groups. Every group had to chose different topic from each other. Our group chose Quantum Computer. Our presentation was based on the advantages, disadvantages, and the marketing strategies of Quantum Computer. Reflection: Microsoft Excel is one of my favorite application software programs. These assignments helped me understand how calculation can be fun! Overall reflection: By taking CIS100, I have learned how to use application software packages on microcomputers. I have also learned how to use several popular application software programs, how to navigate the Internet, as well as how to develop and launch a web site. Now I can make an impressive sales flyer, a resume, and a cover letter in Microsoft Word. I am capable of making spread sheet, formula sheet, and graph in Microsoft Excel. In this course, I did an individual and a group presentation by using Microsoft PowerPoint which was a very exciting experience. I have also learned how to assemble my computer and how to protect it from viruses and hackers. I have attended a computer seminar and learned about new and updated computer programs. In the lecture, I have found the topics “Looking at Computers: Understanding the Parts,” and “Using the Internet: Making the Most of the Web’s Resources” were most important. In the lab, I have liked working in a team because ideas from the group partners helped us on planning, researching, editing, and finally presenting a successful presentation. I have learned something from each of the members of our team. I have also enjoyed developing my e-Portfolio which will help me organize each of my course works in the future.
