Sony have announced their first ever camcorder to feature Sony’s Smile Shutter technology in the form of their new Sony Handycam HDR-CX11E camcorder which, apart from offering Sony’s Smile Shutter also supports full HD recording with 5.1 surround sound and the capability to capture stills at a not too shabby 10.2 megapixels.
Powered by a ClearVid CMOS sensor with Exmor derived technology and a BIONZ processor offering high resolution, low noise HD capture, Sony’s Handycam HDR-CX11E camcorder sports a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens offering 12x optical zoom paired with Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation to ensure that the HDR-CX11E compensates for hand shake, especially when zooming and, naturally, offers Bravia Sync allowing you to hook the HDR-CX11E up to a Bravia HDTV and control the camcorder with your TV remote.
The HDR-CX11E is also the first camcorder to feature Smile Shutter technology which, according to Sony,’automatically captures crisp 7.6 megapixel photos when someone smiles. There’s no need to press the shutter button or interrupt the action: it’s great for spontaneously capturing relaxed, happy moments while you’re recording.’ Interestingly Smile Shutter can also be utilised in ‘Dual Capture’ mode whereby ‘stills are captured whenever someone smiles during movie recording. Switching Smile Shutter to ‘Always On’ mode can even grab photos while you’re in record standby – whether you’re in movie or photo mode – so there’s no chance of missing that winning smile between takes.’
Recording directly to Memory Stick PRO Duo media, according to Sony’s press release the HDR-CX11E comes with a 4GB card supplied to get you started though, being that a 16GB memory card offers a stated 5 hours 55 minutes of full HD video storage the supplied card only offers around 1.5 hours of capacity (the aforementioned 16GB card is an option at the point of purchase, however).
